What Is Child Dedication?
Child Dedication is when parents/guardians dedicate their child to God and commit to raising them to know and follow Jesus, building their family on the truth of God’s Word.
At Gathering Kids, we hold to Proverbs 22:6—“train a child in the way they should go”—and we believe this moment also reflects our church family coming alongside families to support and encourage them as they lead their child spiritually.
Purpose & Significance
God has entrusted children to their parents/guardians and calls them to be the primary spiritual leaders in their child’s life. Child Dedication is a purposeful step where parents/guardians commit to guiding their child toward a relationship with Jesus and creating a home where faith is lived out daily.
What Commitment Am I Making?
By participating in Child Dedication, parents/guardians publicly acknowledge their own relationship with Jesus and recognize that their child belongs to God and was created to experience His love and purpose.
Parents/guardians are committing to:
-Teach the truth of God’s Word at home
-Prioritize worship and spiritual growth as a family
-Lead by example through a Christ-centered life
-Prayerfully guide their child toward a personal faith in Jesus when they are ready
What Child Dedication Is Not
Child Dedication is not salvation. Salvation is a personal decision each individual makes when they choose to follow Jesus.
Child Dedication is also not baptism. Baptism is a step taken after someone has personally placed their faith in Jesus and chooses to publicly declare that decision. When a child is old enough to make that choice, they may then choose to be baptized.
Service Details
Parents/guardians will be invited to join the Lead Pastor and Kids Director on stage during the service. This is a joyful, celebratory moment, and our congregation—your church family—will participate by committing to pray for, encourage, and support your family as your child grows in faith.
Dress is casual.
